Privacy Policy
Yeah Buoy! is published by ZoneLab. The short version of this policy: we don't collect anything about you.
Data we collect
None. Yeah Buoy! has no user accounts, no analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting, and no telemetry. We do not see, store, or transmit any information about you or your use of the app.
Data stored on your device
The app stores the following on your iPhone, locally, using Apple's standard storage:
- Surf spots you select — Surfline spot IDs, names, regions, and coordinates so the app can show you forecasts and push them to your hardware
- WiFi credentials — the SSID and password you enter for your Yeah Buoy! device, so you don't have to retype them
- Display preferences — temperature units, quiet hours, cycle interval
This data never leaves your phone except via Bluetooth to the Yeah Buoy! hardware you own.
Data your device transmits
When you use the app:
- Surfline.com — the app fetches public surf forecasts for the spots you select (no authentication, no account required)
- NOAA / NDBC — the app and the device fetch publicly-available water-temperature readings from the buoy nearest to your selected spots
- GitHub — the app checks for firmware update availability via a public version file
- Your Slab — the app communicates over Bluetooth Low Energy to push WiFi credentials, spot configuration, and display preferences
None of these requests include personal information. None create accounts on your behalf.
Bluetooth
The app requires Bluetooth permission solely to communicate with your Slab. It does not scan for, advertise to, or interact with any other devices.
WiFi network selection
During setup, the app asks your Slab to scan for nearby WiFi networks and shows you a list. The list is gathered by The Slab, not by the iPhone, and is used only to fill the network field on your screen — the SSIDs are never sent to us or any third party.
Children
Yeah Buoy! is rated 4+. We do not knowingly collect any data from children or anyone else.
Changes to this policy
If this policy ever changes, the new version will appear at this URL and the "Last updated" date will change. Material changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
